Originally launched as the Sci-Fi Channel in 1992, cable TV network SyFy now reaches 95 million homes in the United States alone, with another 16 worldwide sister channels across Europe, Russia, Japan and Australia. A division of NBC Universal, SyFy has a built a reputation for creating imaginative original series, with worldwide hits including Warehouse 13, Eureka, Ghost Hunters, Being Human, Sanctuary, Alphas, Destination Truth, and Steven Spielberg’s Emmy award winning Taken.

SyFy is imagination at its finest. Our brief was to translate SyFy’s online experience into a Windows 8 app, offering video clips, episode guides, cast and crew information, and previews. The conceptual process took SyFy’s mission statement of ‘Imagine Greater’ as our guide, embracing the trend towards a multi-screen viewing experience by offering a deep level of supplemental SyFy content, via a clean, strikingly visual interface.

Users are able to discover a wealth of information about their favorite shows from their home page, using either the image based menus or the search function, scrolling through sections and touching images to move further into the app. Smoothly streaming episode clips and related behind-the-scenes video content are a primary focus in the application, featuring prominently on the home page. The app also provides SyFy with social media tracking via our partner Omniture.
